The Story of the New Romantics (also known as A Fine Romance: The Story of the New Romantics) is a 50 minute documentary programme featuring Nick Rhodes, produced by BBC Manchester and first aired on 8 May 2001 in the UK.

About the documentary[]

The documentary is the story of the New Romantic youth fashion and music movement in the UK, that began in the late 1970s. Originally associated with bands such as Visage, Culture Club, Adam and the Ants, Ultravox, Duran Duran. Japan and Spandau Ballet.

Narrated by Magenta de Vine the programme features an interview with Nick Rhodes and clips of Duran Duran, including footage from the "Planet Earth" music video and a photograph of the band outside the Rum Runner nightclub in Birmingham. There are also interviews with Boy George, Spandau Ballet, Steve Strange, Marilyn, Adam Ant, Princess Julia and Philip Sallon.
