Duran Duran cover song

"The Model" (German version "Das Model", spelling on album: "Das Modell") is a song recorded by the electro-pop group Kraftwerk in 1978 and covered by Duran Duran.

About the song[]

Written by musicians Ralf Hütter, Karl Bartos and Emil Schult, the song was released on the album Die Mensch-Maschine (English version title: The Man-Machine) and is one of the band's most accessible and melodic songs.

"The Model" was first released as a 7" single in Germany (B-side: "Neonlicht"), under its English translation and was eventually included on the B-side of the "Computer Love" single released in July 1981, which reached no.36 in the UK charts. When radio DJs started playing the B-side, EMI re-issued the single in December 1981 – apparently against the band's wishes – with "The Model" as the A-side. It reached no.1 in February 1982 and spent a total of 21 weeks in the top 75 of the UK singles charts. Duran Duran covered the song during The Radio Station Festival Tour in 1995.

She's a model and she's looking good
I'd like to take her home that's understood
She plays hard to get, she smiles from time to time
It only takes a camera to change her mind

She's going out tonight but drinking just champagne
And she has been checking nearly all the men
She's playing her game and you can hear them say
She is looking good, for beauty we will pay

She's posing for consumer products now and then
For every camera she gives the best she can
I saw her on the cover of a magazine
Now she's a big success, I want to meet her again
