The Louvre - Paris Concert 2008 was a benefit event that featured Duran Duran, held in France on 10 June 2008.
About the concert[]
This was the first time a band had ever performed a show at the Louvre Museum in Paris, staged under the Louvre glass pyramid designed by IM Pei.
The Louvre has never before permitted a concert to be held in its grounds or in its buildings, so it was a first time historic occasion for the museum and Duran Duran.
The 45-minute Duran Duran concert was organised as part of a fundraising campaign for the 18th century Decorative Arts Gallery of the museum, which was scheduled to re-open its doors again in 2011. In total the event raised $2.6 million to help fund renovations of the restoration of a Louis XV drawing room, originally designed and built for the Hotel Villemare, which is going to be a special feature of the Decorative Arts Gallery.
The show was watched by 265 VIP guests from around the globe including Princess Caroline of Monaco, Prince Ernst August of Hanover, Princess Zahra Aga Khan and Bianca Jagger.
The concert was preceded by a lavish dinner in the museum's Greek, Etruscan And Roman Antiquities gallery, where guests dined at mirrored banquet tables adorned with yellow orchids. They also bid for lots, which included luxury jewellery and a stay at the Bahamas home of magician David Copperfield.

Simon Le Bon said "He hoped the show had 'put a smile on the Mona Lisa's face' " and he also added: "It was a great honour for us to be asked to perform at this prestigious event in one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Paris and for such a worthy cause to the arts". "We are all great lovers of the arts and have visited the museum's works many times. Helping to raise funds for this incredible institution is a tremendous privilege for all of us."
