Sunrise Florida is an unofficial Duran Duran live DVD, recorded during The Astronaut Tour at the Office Depot Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA on 11 February 2005.
About the album[]
The album is an incomplete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Office Depot Center, a 21,600 capacity venue located in Sunrise, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This was the first of four shows performed in the state of Florida on the tour.
The audience rawed when the lights of the arena went out at around 9:00pm and a synthesizer intro kicked in. After several minutes the five original members of Duran Duran appeared and stood in front of the stage, as lights randomly flashed.
The band then launched into an energetic performance of "Sunrise". On tour in support of their eleventh studio album, Astronaut, "Sunrise" was the first of seven songs taken from the album during the evening.
Later into the show, "Asronaut" was halted after several lines when Simon Le Bon shouted "Stop stop". He then added "This is only one of two songs I play guitar for during the whole show and I am not plugged in properly." He was actually plugged into the wrong hole, which he responded by saying. "Where have I heard that before. This explains why I am the singer."
Preceding the encore break was "The Wild Boys", a song which reached no.2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in 1984. After several minutes, the band returned and played a cover version of Melle Mel's "White Lines". Concluding the night was "Rio", featuring Andy Hamilton performing saxophone.
Duran Duran continued the tour the following evening, playing the Tampa show on 12 February.
