Small Sacrifices is a TV movie based on the best-selling true crime book by Ann Rule of the same name. Directed by David Greene it stars Farrah Fawcett, Ryan O'Neal, Gordon Clapp, John Shea and Emily Perkins. The film premiered on ABC on 12 November 1989 and features "Hungry Like The Wolf.
About the film

The film is about Diane Downs and the attempted murder of her three children. The plot involves Diane (portrayed by Fawcett) driving to McKenzie-Willamette Hospital near Springfield, Oregon with a gunshot wound to her arm. She claimed that an unknown assailant attempted to carjack her and shot her three children. Shauna (aged 7) was dead on arrival at the hospital and eldest daughter Karen (aged 8) was badly injured, but survived.
The film shows that Downs started a romance with a man, but he discontinued the relationship as he did not want children. Downs planned to kill her children to be free to pursue this relationship. She never confessed to shooting her children. At the trial she tapped her foot and smiled whilst listening to "Hungry Like the Wolf", the song that was playing in her car when she shot her children.
