Shiuya Kokaido is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Rio Tour at the Shibuya Kokaido in Tokyo, Japan on 1 May 1982.

About the album[]

The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Shibuya Kokaido, a 2,084 capacity venue that was used for the 1964 Summer Olympics. This was the last of five shows performed in Japan on the tour.

Ten days before the release of Duran Duran's second studio album Rio, the band took to the stage in Tokyo and showcased five songs featured on the new album.

The show kicked off with "Tel Aviv", a song Simon Le Bon wrote in his notebook of poems he brought with him to his audition for the band.

"Sound of Thunder" was next, another track from Le Bon's lyric book which he put to song from poem the night he joined the band.

The last part of the show featured the Rio tracks including "My Own Way", which was released as a single in November 1981 and later remixed by David Kershenbaum for the Carnival EP.

The album also includes a very rare recording of "Like An Angel", played during The Rio Tour.

Available at the Japanese Rio shows were different tour programmes, featuring front cover photography by Michael Putland.
