Sheffield Hallam Arena is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Reunion Tour at the Hallam FM Arena in Sheffield, UK on 27 April 2004.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Hallam FM Arena, a 13,500 capacity venue located at Broughton Lane in the city center. This was the first time Duran Duran had performed at the venue since 16 December 1998.
7:30pm - The lights go down. Paddy Boom, BabyDaddy and Del Marquis of the Scissor Sisters come on stage to applause from the gathered crowds. As they get themselves ready, the three are joined by Ana Matronic and Jake Shears. For 45 minutes they wow the crowd with their crossbreed sound and style.
At 8:50pm, the lights went down and a deep musical humming throb began. Dry ice covered the centre of the stage, then Duran Duran appeared.
From left to right the band lined up - John, Roger, Simon, Nick, Andy. Standing at the front of the stage in almost pitch black, soaking up the adoration from the applauding crowd.
As Le Bon sang "The music's between us", the crowd went into overdrive and the band launched into "(Reach Up for The) Sunrise", a song included on the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy soundtrack. When Le Bon reached up for the sunrise, the crowd responded by putting their hands into the air.
The audience were next treated to the much-loved "Hungry Like the Wolf", setting the tone for the whole evening - a mix of well-known classics and new songs.
After playing "Come Undone", Le Bon started to introduce the next song, saying "All you read about in the newspapers is doom and gloom...." then Andy Taylor walked over and whispered something. "Hold that thought" Le Bon told the audience and then explained the setlist had changed. Instead of "What Happens Tomorrow", the band played "A View to a Kill".
To introduce the closing song, an image of Rio was projected.
Tickets for the event cost around £30.
