Roy Kohara is an American Grammy Award winning album art director and designer, whose work has included art direction on Duran Duran's 1981 "Planet Earth" US 12" promo single.
Biography[]
Born in the USA, Kohara has worked on album covers for some of the biggest names in music. As head of Capitol Records art, his earliest credits include Candi Staton's Stand By Your Man (1971), The Greatest of Nat King Cole (1972) and Endless Summer (1974) by The Beach Boys.
In 1980, Against the Wind by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band won the Grammy Award for Best Album Package, credited with art direction by Kohara. The following year he worked on the sleeve for the US promo release of Duran Duran's debut single "Planet Earth", which featured the band on the front cover and a NASA photo of the Earth as the background.
Kohara's work continued throughout the 1980s and 90s, with credits for albums by artists including John Lennon, Freddie Jackson, Melba Moore, Beau Williams and Joe Cocker.
