Rio Radio Special - Australia: EMI DD-999 is a Duran Duran promotional-only 12" vinyl album, released in Australia by EMI Records Australia during 1982.
About the album[]
In April 1982 Duran Duran began touring Australia for the first time with The Rio Tour. Whilst in Australia during April, John Taylor and Nick Rhodes appeared on the country's 3XY FM Radio describing the songs from the band's Rio album. These comments were later used as part of this Rio Radio Special album.
The record is essentially the standard UK release with special introductions to all of the album songs by John Taylor and Nick Rhodes, recorded during their appearance on 3XY FM Radio. Also included are several more recordings taken from other radio spots added to the end of the album.
The Rio Radio Special was issued in the normal Patrick Nagel picture sleeve, with the only difference being a white sticker stating the added attractions on the record and a specially printed record label. Although no actual pressing numbers were recorded, its believed that no more than 500 were made.
