Perry Haines is a British fashion designer, band manager and magazine editor.


History

Beginings

Parry Haines graduated from "St. Martins Fashion College", in London (UK) and became a influential face on London's hipsters circuit, diving head first into the cities post club scene just as the focus of musical experimentation was shifting from the traditional rock onto the dance floor. A new generation of one-nighter events fronted by street kids had created legendary club nights such as Blitz and new establishment of DJ's, taste makers and promoters were making waves. As a co-founder of fashion bible i-D magazine with Terry Jones , it was Haines who had coined the term "New Romantic" to describe his fellow socialites and along with Blitz doorman Steve Strange, he had smartly collected his own social register of contacts to help fill his own i-D club night at Gossips.

Duran Duran

In 1980 Duran Duran's management turned to Perry Haines for assistance in styling their image and even trusted him with the budget for his directorial debut on the band's video of "Careless Memories". Multi tasking as magazine editor, club promotor and fashion stylist, Perry had even found space to release two singles for Fetish Records before deciding his career might not be in front of the microphone. Having witnessed the meteoric rise of associates Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and Visage, Perry concluded that his talents could be best utilized in band management.

King

Perry was the manager of the 1980s band King from Coventry (UK), which had single chart success in 1984 with the songs "Love And Pride", Soul On My Boots" and "Won't You Hold My Hand Now".
