Only After Dark is a compilation album compiled by Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, released in the UK by EMI on 8 May 2006.
About the album[]
The album recreates a night at Birmingham's Rum Runner nightclub during the post punk days of the late 1970s and early 80s. This was a period when a new sound of glam, punk and electronic started to crystallize.
The compilation captures some of the discs that Nick Rhodes spun when he was deejaying for £10 a night at the nightclub, and Duran Duran were the resident band. The inspiration for the compilation came in 2000, when John and Nick spent hours selecting 50-tracks for a 4-hour radio show entitled A Night at the Rum Runner.
"I Feel Love" by Donna Summer is included, the first song sung by Simon Le Bon as lead singer of Duran Duran. This performance was at the Rum Runner on 16 July 1980.
The CD was released in a Patty Palazzo designed silver gatefold card sleeve, with shocking pink metallic print. The cover features photography by Paul Edmond, taken during the 1970s/early 80s and includes fashion designer Patti Bell on the front. These photos were first published in the Duran Duran Unseen book.
