Duran Duran |
The Duran Duran Tribute Album (also known as the Mojo Duran Duran Tribute Album) is a cover song compilation album, released in the USA by Mojo / Universal on 7 October 1997.
About the album[]
The album is a collection of Duran Duran songs covered by various artists, chosen from a wide spectrum of bands who have been influenced by Duran Duran.
The compilation includes two versions of "Girls on Film", because Wesley Willis on hearing Bjorn Again were covering the track felt they could do it better.
The various musical styles jump from genre to genre on the album, but with a common thread present. Goldfinger's "Rio" has a chorus of a metal-ish sound, with Reel Big Fish taking a swingin turn on "Hungry Like The Wolf". Riverfenix's "Ordinary World", and Wise Crack's "Come Undone" have a punk pop connection. Bjorn Again and Wesley Willis Fiasco provide two very different takes on "Girls on Film" from shimmering dance to whacked whined word, but The Deftones cover of "The Chauffeur" is almost like the original.
Tribute concert:
A concert was held in Los Angeles, CA, USA on Sunday 12 October 1997, which featured acts involved on this album celebrating Duran Duran and their music. (bootlegged on Tower Records 1997).
