Manchester: 17 April 2004 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Reunion Tour at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, UK on 17 April 2004.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the M.E.N. Arena, a 21,000 capacity venue in the city center. The show was part of fifteen UK dates on the tour, and the first of two performed in Manchester.
This was a sold out gig. The crowd filled the air with tension as the lights dimmed, a beat rose from the stage, lights flashed and the five original members of Duran Duran appeared on stage.
Soon Duran Duran opened this Saturday evening show with a hard edged version of "(Reach Up for The) Sunrise", a complete unknown track that had the packed arena on its feet and singing along.
Songs from the 80s followed, including a powerful rendition of "Union of the Snake".
During the evening, Nick Rhodes showcased his keyboard skills whilst playing "Tiger Tiger" on his own. Simon Le Bon then joined him for "The Chauffeur", with the full band playing the climax of the song.
The show also featured a violent animated video screened during the performance of "Careless Memories", that depicted the five band members battling deadly ninjas and city-stomping monsters.
English electronic duo Goldfrapp opened the show and tickets cost around £40.00 + £5.30 booking fee.
