About the song[]

Laughing Boy is a New-Wave ballad with ambient trance tones, and synth percussion notes reminiscent of Ashes to Ashes by David Bowie. The song was written with Graham Coxon and produced by Erol Alkan.

Simon said on the Whooosh! radio show that "he was the Laughing Boy". "It's a story that we all can relate to - you pin your colours to the mast of someone else in life and become their sidekick - and do everything they want you to do but then you realize they make very bad decisions and so you cut loose and move on." He said he was going for a sound like the Wailers used to create the backing vocals. (Source).
