Jeff Hornbaker is an American photographer, whose work has included Duran Duran photography.
Jeff's first memories of photography swing all the way back to his grandmother's enjoyment of the art. Twelve years later, he took up the lens himself. At the time Jeff was at the University of Hawaii, and planning a career in marine biology. He bought a Fujica camera and started taking photos of waves. Art Brewer and Steve Pezman at Surfer magazine bought a couple of Jeff's images and put him on a $200 a month retainer, 'just to shoot photos' between 1974/75.
By the early 1980s he'd been lured to rival publication Surfing, where his talent was given more or less free rein. Jeff's photography style which incorporates brilliant colours, intriguing angles and an overall sense of movement within the stilled image soon dominated not just Surfing, but the visual imagination of most other surf lensmen.
