Originally written and recorded by John Lennon, the song was covered by Duran Duran in 2006 for the Make Some Noise campaign sponsored by Amnesty International.
Duran Duran's version was released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Lennon's death.
John Lennon's version was his third solo single on Apple Record and is one of three Lennon solo songs, along with "Imagine" and "Give Peace a Chance" that is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It ranks as one of the fastest-released songs in pop music history, recorded (at London's Abbey Road Studios) the same day it was written, and coming out only ten days later.
