"Hothead" is a song by Duran Duran, released on the album Liberty by Capitol-EMI on 20 August 1990.

About the song[]

The song was written by Duran Duran, who also produced the track with Chris Kimsey.

The track was recorded at Duran Duran's Church Row, Wandsworth office (citation needed), and London's Olympic Studios in Barnes, with the final recording sessions starting on 9 October 1989.

"Hothead" is an uptempo rock/metallic song, featuring spoken words from Simon Le Bon, mixed with sampled recordings which Nick recorded from American television news shows.

Song Themes[]

Simon has said that John Lennon once sang about Revolution, so the band made the conscious decision to make this song about Evolution, and is a Duran Beatles Connection.

This is the first openly politically motivated song by Duran Duran, after the spoken word speech God (London), which was included as a B-side to Do You Believe in Shame?. Other anti-establishment or political songs include: Too Much Information, Mr. Jones, Ball of Confusion, Point Of No Return, Paper Gods (song), Tonight United, and several songs from the unreleased Reportage album.

Lyrics[]

(We will continue, ah, to ah to ahhh.. watch this situation very closely)

Here in the shadows where we stand,
Watching lady, watching man
(It may take nature three years the experts say, to make up for the damage done)
Reading the pictures as they roll,
We see the planet lose control
(The average credit card holder has about $750 in revolving debt)

   Hothead!
   Evolution, non-stop evolution
(No contacts and simply bought back)

   Hothead!
   Evolution, non-stop evolution
   (hothead..)

Time.
Time will change the picture (all the time)
About time!, (all the time)
Time will change the picture

How to change the point of view,
About what is fake and what is true
(There are charges today a consumer product is torching homes and killing Americans)
Blow by blow you're telling me,
You'll change the course of history
(Our television trends have come out of Hollywood; action, cause stretches changes)

   Hothead!
   Evolution, non-stop evolution
   Hothead!

   Hothead!
   Evolution, non-stop evolution
   Hothead!
   (hothead..)

Bop Baa Baa Baa Bop Baa-baa
(police earlier this morning opened fire when the suspects resisted)
Bop Baa Baa Baa Bop Baa-baa
(they think not to demonstrate it when man and war just wants to protest)
Bop Baa Baa Baa Bop Baa-baa
(crusaders believe in booing the headmaster.. plead guilty, he did it)
Bop Baa Baa Baa Baa
(no contacts and simply bought back)
Time!
Time!

I turn you on, you turn me off
Right now I'm suffering from this culture shock
You spread confusion wherever you can
With shaking heads and shaking hands
Use propaganda to manipulate
When they make up a bust you protect the state
Then the body break and the body tumble -
So you build it up, then you watch it crumble.

Time will change the picture (all the time)
(evolution, non-stop evolution)
About time
Time will change the picture (all the time)
(evolution, non-stop evolution)
About time
Time will change the picture (all the time)
(evolution, NON-STOP!)
