HOB Cybercast is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Let It Flow Tour at the House of Blues in Chicago, IL, USA on 7 August 1999. The date on the back cover is mistakenly labeled "August 08, 1999".
About the album[]
The album is an incomplete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the House of Blues in Chicago, a 1,300 capacity venue located at 329 N. Dearborn Street. This was the last of three shows performed in the state of Illinois on the tour.
Broadcast on the Internet worldwide, Duran Duran appeared on stage in darkness.
After a very short instrumental intro there was an explosion of white strope lights and the camara clicking sequence to "Girls on Film" began. Played with a more guitar-driven sound than the original synthesizer-laden recording, "Girls on Film" finished with Simon Le Bon telling the crowd in the sold-out venue to "Pump it up, pump it up, pump it out!".
Two more hits from the 80s followed, then Le Bon introduced "Hallucinating Elvis", a new track from the upcoming Pop Trash album.
Before playing "Out of My Mind", Le Bon lit a candle and placed it on the stage by his feet. He then launched the song with "Light a candle, lay flowers at the door, for those who were left behind".
After a rare performance of "Friends of Mine", Le Bon introduced "Someone Else Not Me" by saying "This song is about being able to let go".
"Electric Barbarella" contains a moment when Le Bon sings out of tune and not at the right time.
For the encore, Duran Duran returned with their no.1 hit single "The Reflex", then introduced another new song, "Pop Trash Movie". "Rio" closed the show.
The album is missing the last four songs from the concert, which were "Ordinary World", "The Reflex", "Pop Trash Movie" and "Rio".
