"Give It All Up" is the third track on the album Future Past, released by Duran Duran in 2021.
About the song[]
Give It All Up features backing vocals by Tove Lo. Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson (born 29 October 1987), known professionally as Tove Lo (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈtûːvɛ ˈluː]), is a Swedish singer and songwriter, who has been called "Sweden's darkest pop export" by Rolling Stone. She is known for her raw, grunge-influenced take on pop music. She mainly sings the third chorus.
The collaboration came about after a long list of possible collaborations was created by DD Management, and presented to the band during recording; including names such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. John and Simon saw the name Tove Lo and said "We know her. We stood backstage at her concert in Sao Paulo during the Lollapalooza tour". The artist was sent the complete unfinished album, and quickly chose Give It All Up as the song she would like to sing on. Simon recalls saying "Oh no, that song is finished!, and I like the way I sound on it and I don't want to share it with anybody." Simon then accepted her choice, and said "Let's just see what she comes up with". The result was "wonderful and so crazy that it made the track bigger". (Source).
Tove Lo said on Instagram: "Such an honor for me to join these legends on this amazing album and tune. Getting to sing along to Simon's voice on “Give It All Up” was pretty surreal. I’m also a big fan of Erol Alkan, so I was very excited when I heard he was producing the track! It’s that kind of emotional song that keeps building in desperation and energy so you wanna dance and cry to it. My favorite kind!" (Source).
About the video[]
A visualiser video was released on the band's official youtube channel 20 Oct 2021, showing grainy image of someone looking out of a window. The wooden windows slats reminiscent of the several videos from the Rio album.
