Florida: 16-07-1993 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Dilate Your Mind Tour at the Sunrise Musical Theatre in Sunrise, Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA on 16 July 1993.

About the album[]

The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Sunrise Musical Theatre, a 750 capacity venue located at 5555 NW 95th Avenue in Sunrise. This was the third of four shows performed in the state of Florida on the tour.

This Friday evening show began at 8:00pm with opening act Terence Trent D'Arby, an American singer-songwriter who released his third album Symphony or Damn several months before.

The crowd roared when Duran Duran took to the intimate stage and kicked off with their debut single "Planet Earth". Whilst the band were performing the song, a planet earth prop crashed through gray brick walls.

Designed by opera and film designer Stefanos Lazaidis, the stage looked like an elaborate theater set which featured other props including a giant bank vault drum riser, a giant eyeball videoscreen, an old English red phone booth and a TV set.

The tempo slowed for the second song "Hungry Like the Wolf", played as an acoustic version with shimmering percussion. As the show progressed, however, the energy level picked up, particularly on the older, upbeat dance songs.

During the evening there was a cover version of "White Lines", followed by an orchestrated version of "The Chauffeur".

Duran Duran finished their performance with "The Wild Boys", a single released in the UK with six separate collectible covers - one featuring each individual band member and one of the band collectively.

Tickets for the event cost around $21.75.
