First Day On Earth is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Pop Trash Tour at the Olimpiyskiy Arena in Moscow, Russia on 1 February 2001.
About the album[]
The first part of the album is an incomplete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Olimpiyskiy Arena, a 25,000 concert capacity venue built for the 1980 Summer Olympics.
This was a historic show for Duran Duran, as it was the first time the band had performed in Russia. The event was broadcast on Russian TV.
The album only contains those songs aired during the broadcast, which also features Simon Le Bon speaking Russian.
The second part of the album are bonus tracks, recorded at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, CA, USA on 13 April 1995. The event was a free show sponsored by a local radio station as an apology for the on-air razzing the band received. Le Bon and Warren Cuccurullo performed an acoustic set, as an apology to those who were turned away at the Wherehouse record signing.
The Russian concert ticket and poster features Duran Duran photography by Ellen von Unwerth.
After performing a second show in Russia the following evening, Duran Duran returned to the country in 2009 to play the Saint Petersburg show on 4 June.
