Madison 87 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Strange Behaviour Tour at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY, USA on 24 June 1987.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at Madison Square Garden, a 20,000 capacity venue in which Duran Duran first played during March 1984. This was the second of five shows performed in the state of New York on the tour.
Erasure, an English synthpop duo consisting of Vince Clarke and Andy Bell, kicked off the evening with a set that included their hit "Who Needs Love Like That".
The show was introduced by a colourful Mardi Gras parade, with the songs underscored by sophisticated lighting and a computer-controlled video system that projected animated and photographic images onto a grid of 49 interlocking monitors.
Making a long-awaited return to New York with two consecutive sold out nights at Madison Square Garden, Duran Duran took to the stage and launched into their US Billboard Hot 100 no.1 single "A View to a Kill".
The trio of Simon Le Bon, John Taylor and Nick Rhodes, performing with an expanded line-up of horns and percussion, gave their songs a greater textural depth with a Latin pulse.
They played a selection of songs from their new album Notorious, alongside hits including "Is There Something I Should Know?" and "Hungry Like the Wolf".
The show climaxed in the encore with "The Wild Boys", followed by a performance of the band's most successful single "The Reflex".
Tickets for the event cost around $20.00.
