About the episode[]
This is an episode from the British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC that first aired in 1963. The show depicts the adventures of a travelling Time Lord known as The Doctor, who is a humanoid alien. He explores the universe in his 'TARDIS', a sentient time-travelling spaceship.
In the episode, The Doctor and Clara find themselves dealing with Cold War tensions when the TARDIS lands aboard a disabled Soviet ballistic submarine. The Doctor is on board with an Ice Warrior who has prepared the submarine's nuclear missiles for launch; if fired, mass destruction from both sides in the war would ensue. During the show, Clara sang part of the chorus from "Hungry Like the Wolf" and deactivated the submarine warheads.
"Hungry Like the Wolf" is one of Professor Grisenko's favourite songs - at one point it can be heard playing on his Walkman. He tries to encourage Clara to sing this song in order to stay brave, but she initially refuses.
