De Panne 89 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded at The Belga Beach Festival in De Panne, Belgium on 6 August 1989.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at The Belga Beach Festival in De Panne, a music festival held along the North Sea coast of the Belgian province of West Flanders.
This was the 4th of five summer festivals performed by Duran Duran in 1989. The others were the Leysin Festival (Switzerland), Puerto Real Festival (Spain), Malaga Festival (Spain), and the Skanderborg Festival (Denmark). These shows featured Duran Duran performing various special songs in each of them.
With the stage set up on the beach facing the sea, the event also featured Joe Cocker, Womack & Womack, The Pasadenas, Aswad, and Energy Orchard.
Duran Duran launched their set with "I Don't Want Your Love", the first single released from the album Big Thing. The band then delivered "Hungry Like the Wolf", one of four songs taken from Rio during the evening.
After playing their 1989 hit single "Do You Believe in Shame?", Duran Duran performed the song medley "Maximum Big Surprise" featuring "Election Day" and "Some Like It Hot".
The show also included two unreleased songs at the time, "My Family" and "Yo Bad Azizi". The first track "My Family" remained unreleased and "Yo Bad Azizi" later featured as the "Serious" B-side.
