Connect the World: December 20, 2010 is a primetime CNN International news programme presented by Becky Anderson, which featured Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes on that date.
About the show[]
Broadcast each weekday by CNN International from studios in London between 9:00pm and 9:30pm (UTC), the programme reports on news stories from around the world. Included are celebrity interviews, featuring some questions sent via email from the public.
After various video clips of Duran Duran, including segments of "The Wild Boys" and "Hungry Like The Wolf", the interview with Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes began with the question "Does music making ever get easier?". Le Bon answered that he joined Duran Duran in 1980 and that they were very much an experimental group, with two art school members (Nick Rhodes, John Taylor) and a clarinetist (Simon Colley) before him.
All You Need Is Now was covered and Rhodes commented that producer Mark Ronson was a big fan of Duran Duran's first couple of albums, and wanted to recapture the energy and spirit of those songs, leaning towards experimentation. Le Bon added that Ronson had always dreamed of making an exciting and experimental album with Duran Duran and that only analogue synthesizers were used.
When asked about what tracks had lasted through time and distance, Le Bon said he felt "Ordinary World" still sounded very fresh and emotional now, plus the B-side "Secret Oktober" was a favorite.
