Columbiahalle, Berlin: October 3, 2004 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Reunion Tour at the Columbiahalle in Berlin, Germany on 3 October 2004.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Columbiahalle, a 3,500 capacity venue located near the Tempelhof airport. This was the only show performed in continental Europe on the tour.
The concert was held on the 14th anniversary of the country's reunification, celebrated as the German Unity Day. During their stay in Berlin, members of Duran Duran attended an instore signing session, held at the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden on the day before the show (see Saturn Berlin Signing).
Some 3,500 fans from all across the continent celebrated the European live premiere of Astronaut in Berlin, filling the Columbiahalle to capacity for Duran Duran's first concert in Germany since 1993.
After Duran Duran took to the stage, they soaked up the noise and adoration for a few moments before launching into "(Reach Up for The) Sunrise", quickly followed by "Want You More!". Starting with the newly released "(Reach Up for The) Sunrise" single, "Want You More!" was a track from a not-yet released album.
They followed those two new songs with the 80s hits "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "The Reflex".
The entire evening was a mixture of déjà-vu and brand-new. "Careless Memories" took many in the audience back to the Hammersmith Odeon video of 1982. "Come Undone" caused shivers of delight.
The evening finished with "Rio", featuring Andy Hamilton playing saxophone.
Tickets for the event cost around €41.25.
