Coconut Grove, Los Angeles: October 21, 1988 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Secret Caravan Club Tour at the Coconut Grove Ballroom, Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, CA, USA on 21 October 1988.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Coconut Grove Ballroom, a venue situated in the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles. Located at 3400 Wilshire Boulevard, the hotel is seen in movies such as Pretty Woman, Forrest Gump and Charlie's Angels.
This was the third date performed in the state of California on the tour, held three days after the release of Duran Duran's 7th studio album Big Thing on 18 October.
Duran Duran took to the intimate stage with "God (London)", a spoken word track from their new album. The band then launched into the album's title track "Big Thing", followed by the current US hit single "I Don't Want Your Love".
Soon Duran Duran were showcasing more new song including "Palomino", with Nick Rhodes creating some intriguing atmospheric soundscapes on his keyboards.
"Rio" served as the evening’s grand finale. Towards the end of the song Stan Harrison played a saxophone solo.
The promotional poster was printed on high quality matt card with a glossy reverse. Promoted by Avalon Attractions, the poster features a black 'fish' motif and was hand signed by the artist on the side border.
