Close Up: 5 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Up Close and Personal Tour at the House of Blues in Chicago, IL, USA on 24 March 2001.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the House of Blues in Chicago, a 1,300 capacity venue located at 329 N. Dearborn Street. This was the last of five shows held at the venue on the tour.
Performing without an opening act, Duran Duran catapulted onto the House of Blues stage at 10:00pm for their fifth consecutive sold-out night at the venue and launched into "Silva Halo".
House of Blues spokeswoman Mary Clare Bourjaily said the venue had never presented more than three consecutive sold-out shows by any one artist or group before. Duran Duran held the previous record, when the band sold-out three shows in August 1999.
The group last performed in the Chicago area in August 2000 at the New World Music Theatre show in Tinley Park. This performance, however, being in a much smaller venue, gave fans a chance to get a closer view.
Duran Duran held court this Saturday night, performing a rousing 90-minute selection of their biggest hits, album favorites and songs from their latest release, Pop Trash.
The setlist showcased the varied phases of Duran Duran's development, from haunting New Wave-like compositions to energetic pop rock songs.
The show included "Union of the Snake", played early; a moving rendition of "Ordinary World"; the catchy "Notorious"; "Come Undone", and a powerful version of "Girls on Film" featuring a heavy-hitting drum solo.
Lead singer Simon Le Bon entertained fans with his expressive gestures and theatrical moves throughout the evening. The singer donned sunglasses and launched into Elvis-like moves for "Hallucinating Elvis".
Duran Duran ended the show with "Rio", which had audience members yelling for more.
Tickets for the event cost around $43.50.
