Cirque Royal in Brussels, Belgium: June 18, 2008 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Red Carpet Massacre Tour at the Cirque Royal in Brussels, Belgium on 18 June 2008.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Cirque Royal, a venue that dates from 1878 when it served as Brussels only permanent circus. This was the only show performed in Belgium on the tour.
The concert began with a lightshow, accompanied by instrumental music from Stanley Kubrick's 1971 movie A Clockwork Orange.
As the applause from audience grew louder, Duran Duran appeared on a short stretch of red carpet to perform "The Valley". After two more songs from the Red Carpet Massacre album, Simon Le Bon asked "Is anybody hungry?", spoken with a Belgium accent as an intro to the much-loved "Hungry Like the Wolf".
Before "Come Undone", Le Bon explained to the audience how the song was developed. Commenting that the group's guitarist at the time, Warren Cuccurullo wanted to do a reworking of one of the tracks they were recording for The Wedding Album. He came up with a slow version that was completely different, which became "Come Undone".
A rousing, rocking double encore of the highly-charged "The Wild Boys" and their ultimately defining hit "Rio" closed out the show.
The Belgium event flyer features Duran Duran photography by Stephanie Pistel.
