Chris Potter is a British music engineer and producer, most famous for his work as long-term collaborator and producer of The Verve and Richard Ashcroft, whose work has also included Duran Duran's Liberty album.

Biography[]

Chris started his career at Maison Rouge Studios in London, where he worked his way up through the ranks to chief engineer. After several successful years there, he left to further his career as a freelance producer and mixer. He was hired in 1990 to record sound effects for Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands. He has worked with many artists of note including The Rolling Stones and U2 and won a Brit Award for Best Producer in 1998 for his work on The Verve's multi-million selling 'Urban Hymns'.

Since enjoying worldwide success with his productions and mixes on ‘Urban Hymns’, Chris has continued to work extensively with Richard Ashcroft on all of his solo albums. He produced and mixed Richard's debut album ‘Alone with Everybody’ (UK No.1), the follow up ‘Human Conditions’ (UK No.3) and his third album ‘Keys To The World’ (UK No. 2). Other Credits Include The Rolling Stones (3 Albums), Mixing U2, Producing Blur, I am Kloot and Mixing Keane. Chris also mixed 10 tracks on The Feeling's critically acclaimed first album '12 Stops from Home' (UK No. 2).

Last year Chris produced and mixed The Verve’s long awaited No.1 comeback album ‘Forth’ - including the first single ‘Love Is Noise’ (UK No.2). Recently Chris has been producing and mixing for The Rifles (Warners), White Belt Yellow Tag (Distiller), New Education (developed by 14th Floor) and mixed tracks for The Yeah You's (Island).

Among the other artists that Chris has worked with include Fortune Drive, Story One, The Clash, Flowered Up, Whale, Gabrielle, Duran Duran, Heather Nova, The Orb, Tina Dico, Eagle Eye Cherry, Paul McCartney, Feeder, Archive, Diesel Park West, Orange Lights, Jack Savoretti, Joe Echo and Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens).

Chris also worked on Duran Duran's 1990 Liberty album, with the final recording beginning on 9 October 1989 at the Olympic Studios in London (UK).
