Chichester '81 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Careless Memories Tour at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Wellington Road in Chichester, UK on 30 November 1981.
About the album[]
The album is an incomplete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Chichester Festival Theatre, a 1,206 capacity venue located in Oaklands Park, Chichester. This was the second show of seventeen performed in the UK on the tour.
The show was filmed for the television series Off the Record by TVS, who were the ITV franchise holder in the south and south east of England. The episode was first aired in the UK during January 1982, then shown later on the Nickelodeon Channel in the USA.
This was Duran Duran's first television 'in concert' performance. Tickets were only available through the Fan Club, which were all numbered on the back and included Duran Duran photography by Michael Putland on the front.
The tickets read; Mr. John Cooper Clarke on behalf of TVS cordially invites you to an evening of popular entertainment with 'Duran Duran' on Monday 30th November at the Chichester Festival Theatre. 7:15 for 7:45pm.
The evening began with opening act John Cooper Clarke, an English performance poet who first became famous during the punk rock era of the late 1970s when he became known as a "punk poet".
The album features Duran Duran's current single "My Own Way", a song included on Rio in 1982 and later remixed by David Kershenbaum for the Carnival EP.
