Blondie Warm Up Gig: New Jersey 1982 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during Blondie's Tracks Across America Tour at the Brendan Byrne Arena, Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ, USA on 14 August 1982.
About the album[]
The album is a complete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Brendan Byrne Arena, a 20,000 capacity indoor venue located at 50 Route 120 in East Rutherford. This was the only show performed in the state of New Jersey on the tour.
Featuring Duran Duran as an opening act, the tour was originally planned as 41 concerts. Unfortunately guitarist Chris Stein of Blondie discovered he had a rare life-threatening illness, so only 20 shows took place with Duran Duran performing at 12 of them. Shortly after Blondie split up.
The album features many of Duran Duran songs played at a slightly quicker tempo, including "Last Chance on the Stairway". The setlist was slightly different from other Blondie support shows with songs such as "Friends of Mine" and "Anyone Out There" omitted.
Tickets for the event cost around $12.50.
Andy Warhol attended the concert and later escorted the band on their first visit to the Studio 54 nightclub. It was there John Taylor met Nile Rodgers and Tony Thompson for the first time.
The album front cover features Duran Duran photography by Michael Putland.
