Birmingham Symphony Hall is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during An Acoustic Evening Tour at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, UK on 19 March 1993.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Symphony Hall, a 2,262 capacity venue located inside the International Convention Center on Broad Street in Birmingham. This was the first of three shows performed in the UK on the tour.
Duran Duran returned to the same street where the former Rum Runner nightclub was located, a venue the band were based during the late 1970s/early 80s. Now backed by a string section for the tour, the band kicked off with their 1981 single "Planet Earth".
More acoustic arrangements followed, which offered something different in the age of computer-generated light shows and recorded vocal tracks.
Violins and acoustic guitars announced the start of "Ordinary World", a song Simon Le Bon later performed with Luciano Pavarotti in 1995.
During the evening, Duran Duran played "Crystal Ship" and "Success", two cover songs which would feature on the 1995 album Thank You.
The concert was professionally filmed, but footage has never been released.
The album also includes a bonus track of "Come Undone", recorded at the Ahoy in Rotterdam, Netherlands on 1 September 1993. The song features Lamya performing the main vocals, after Simon Le Bon was unable to continue the concert.
