Birmingham: April 25th 2004 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Reunion Tour at the NEC Arena, Birmingham, UK on 25 April 2004.

About the album[]

The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the NEC Arena, a 16,000 capacity venue located adjacent to Birmingham International Airport. This was the last of three shows at the Arena on the tour, a venue the five original band members last played on 12 December 1983.

Held on the day before Roger Taylor's 44th Birthday, Duran Duran took to the stage and stood at the front, as spotlights randomly lit each of them.

A reunited Duran Duran chose to open their third homecoming show of the tour with the new song "Sunrise", a track that signalled the dawning a new era. "(Reach Up for The) Sunrise" was almost completely unknown, but had such instant appeal that a packed NEC was soon on its feet and singing along with Birmingham's very own New Romantic band.

"(Reach Up for The) Sunrise" screamed comeback single and anticipation for Duran Duran's forthcoming album, as the band previewed more new material during the 2-hour set.

Looking just as trim, Duran Duran dusted down such classics as "Rio", "Girls on Film", "The Reflex" and "The Wild Boys".

"Planet Earth" was introduced as the song which rocketed them from the Rum Runner club located on Birmingham's Broad Street, onto a worldwide stage.

"Save A Prayer" was brought into the 21st Century when the crowd was encouraged to wave aloft mobile phones, rather than cigarette lighters.

"Careless Memories" was accompanied by an anime depicting the band as Ninja warriors battling the evil forces of the music industry, created by Japanese illustrator Fumio Obata

During the show, Simon Le Bon commented that the last time the band played the venue was winter! (it was actually 6 days before on the 19 April, with tonights show held during a mini heatwave).

Near the end of the evening, the band sang "Happy Birthday" to Roger Taylor.
