Apr 19: Birmingham N.E.C. Arena is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Reunion Tour at the NEC Arena, Birmingham, UK on 19 April 2004.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the NEC Arena, a 16,000 capacity venue located adjacent to Birmingham International Airport. This was the second of three shows at the Arena on the tour, a venue first played by the band on 12 December 1983 (bootlegged on N.E.C. TV Show).
Under the cover of darkness, the five original members of Duran Duran stood at the front of the stage. Within minutes the band launched the show with "(Reach Up for The) Sunrise", an unreleased song at the time.
Hits from the 80s followed, before Duran Duran played the ballad "Come Undone", which gave the audience a chance catch their breath.
A Psycho-movie inspired shower scene featuring Liz Hurley, shot by Nick Rhodes provided a backdrop to a passionate performance of the Bond theme "A View to a Kill".
The backstage plasma screens also projected other images during the concert, including a Manga anime shown whilst "Careless Memories" was performed. This was created by Fumio Obata (main illustrator) and Gary Oldknow.
English electronic music duo Goldfrapp opened the show and tickets cost around £40.00.
The album front cover features photography by Richard Haughton.
