"Anniversary" is the 42nd single by Duran Duran, and the third single released from the album Future Past, published in digital form on Tuesday 31st August 2021. ℗ 2021 Tape Modern under exclusive license to BMG Rights Management (US) LLC.
About The Song[]
Composed and also produced by Duran Duran, Graham Coxon and Erol Alkan. The song was written during a period when the band were preparing to celebrate various 40th anniversaries. The year 2020 also marked the occasion of Simon and Yasmin's 35th wedding anniversary. The single was released 15 days before the 40th anniversary of Duran Duran's First American Tour, and two months after the 40th anniversary of the release of Duran Duran (1981 album), June 15th 1981.
John Taylor said “‘ANNIVERSARY’ is a special song for us. Obviously we were conscious of our own impending 40th anniversary of making music together, but we wanted the song’s meaning to be inclusive in the broadest possible way. After playing and working together for so long, we very much appreciate what ‘being together’ and ’staying together’ can really mean. It’s not something we would have thought song-worthy 40 years ago, but we do today! It was also fun to build a track with hints of previous Duran hits, they’re like Easter eggs, for the fans to find.”

Meeting The Queen Look-a likes |
The original idea for the video came from Nick in the summer of 2021. Simon confirms with Alan Carr "He was so excited that nobody had done a video like that before, with a party and celebrity lookalikes." Previous videos to feature lookalikes include: Justin Timberlake Cry Me A River, Mariah Carey Obsessed, and of course Frankie Goes To Hollywood Two Tribes.
The band contacted Alison Jackson, a famous celebrity impersonator producer. Alison put out a casting call for young DD lookalikes for the Anniversary video on August 4th 2021. (Twitter).
Filming took place at Belvour Castle (pronounced BeeVar), in Leicestershire (with perhaps a filming day in London?) on September 7th. Soon after, the news was leaked that the video would feature the original fab five (Source). Simon said on the Alan Carr radio show (link) that the video wasn't meant to offend anybody [famous]. It was just a funny party celebration. The band didnt get to see any of the lookalikes until the day of filming, and he didn't notice Vladimir Putin was there until he saw the final video. Simon was taken in by the authenticity of 'Jennifer Lopez', and it was a challenge meeting his younger self.
The Premier for the Anniversary video took place on October 19th (News), released on YouTube (Watch). A special 'Making Of' documentary called Double Take is made available during a Dreamstage live streaming event and a fan Q & A, on October 21st (News).
The video includes lookalikes of: Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Corgis, Elton John, Daniel Craig, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, Vladimir Putin, George Clooney, Greta Thunberg, Ariana Grande, Billie Ellish, Dolly Parton, Cher, Kim Kardashian, Naomi Campbell, Megan Fox, and Jennifer Lopez. Other lookalike appearances may also include: Victoria Beckham, David Beckham. There also appears to be a cameo by the real Yasmin Le Bon at 1:33.

Lyrics[]
Come celebrate, this union Come wholly and unchained. How do you know?, stay or go?, Keep riding on the train. (Woah, Woah) What does it take from beneath the skin, To keep from letting go. Some moments burned into the storm, And some you'll never know. (Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo, Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo) All our days. Anniversary! (Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo, Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo) Celebrate! Anniversary! (Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo, Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo) Across the world, on radio, For anyone to hear. We are the song, so bring it on, Once more be close and clear. (Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo, Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo) All our days. Anniversary! (Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo, Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo) Celebrate Anniversary! (Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo - Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo) It's our time Anniversary! (Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo, Ahh-ah - do-do do do-do doo) Yours and mine Anniversary!
