Alan Curtis is a British guitarist, who has performed in bands including London Pride, Duran Duran and Dif Juz.
Biography[]
Alan is a self taught guitarist who was a member of punk band London Pride in the late 1970s.
He joined Duran Duran in 1979 and became part of the band's 2nd and 3rd official line-up. This comprised of Curtis, Andy Wickett, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor in 1979, with Jeff Thomas joining those five members later that year.
He left Duran Duran in early 1980 when he apparently disappeared, missing a particularly volatile gig after the band hired owners of Birmingham's Rum Runner nightclub Paul and Michael Berrow as managers. In a 2003 interview published in the Notorious: The Unauthorised Biography book, John Taylor said "straight away Alan Curtis skipped town, thinking getting involved with two nightclub owners meant he would end up in pieces down a city alleyway."
Alan return to London where he resumed his collaboration with his brother Dave and Richard Thomas (all of whom played in London Pride) and was joined by Gary Bromley to form Dif Juz, an instrumental band strongly influenced by dub. The name Dif Juz was adopted as a play on Different Jazz.
