10-20-2006: Sofia is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Astronaut Tour at the Winter Palace of Sport in Sofia, Bulgaria on 20 October 2006.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Winter Palace of Sport, a 4,500 capacity venue located in the country's capital city. This was Duran Duran's first ever show in Bulgaria.
The Friday evening show began at approx 8:00pm as spotlights went out, followed by a roar from the audience to welcomed Duran Duran on stage for their first Bulgarian show.
After a recording of "Burning the Ground", Duran Duran took the audience back to 1982 with their opening song "Hungry Like the Wolf". The band's debut single "Planet Earth" was next, performed as stage lights flashed red in time with the beat.
Duran Duran soon played "Come Undone", the first of two songs taken from The Wedding Album in the setlist and familiar with many of the younger members of the audience. "Come Undone" was performed with a huge backdrop plama screen that projected bizarre shapes throughout the song.
The show finished with "Rio" and Simon Le Bon holding up a Bulgarian flag.
